My name is Deb Nguyen, and I'm the Young Women in Harmony coordinator of the San Diego Chorus. The Young Women in Harmony program encourages and inspires young women through the joy of barbershop harmony. As part of our regional seminar in Ontario, CA in August, we are having an educational program dedicated to Young Women in Harmony, with classes in vocal and presentation skills by award winning quartets and faculty (descriptive flyers attached).

Competition Announcement
The State Government of Baja California, through the Instituto de Cultura, invites all pianists to participate in the V Piano Biennial competition which will take place on November 28, 29, and 30, 2008 at the State Theater, Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico

CATEGORIES:
I -----From 9 to 13 years of age
II ----From 14 to 19 years of age
III – From 20 years and over for pianists who do not practice piano as a Profession
IV --- Teachers and Professionals.

RULES;
1. This Biennial Piano Competition is open to all piano students and professionals without restriction of residence or nationality.
2. The works can be for one performer on one piano (Soloist), two performers on one piano (Duet), and for two performers on two pianos (Duo).
3. The Duet and the Duo will be considered as unity for judging and cash prizes, and will be divided equally. Participants of Categories II, III, and IV may play works for piano and orchestra.
4. Each contestant can participate only once.
5. At time of Registry, each contestant should supply four copies of the music score to be performed with all the measures numbered.
6. Contestants of Category IV should play by memory. Contestants of the I, II, and III categories can play with their music scores. Accompanists of the works for piano and orchestra can also play with music scores.
7. The maximum time limit for Category I is eight minutes (8), for Catergories II and III is twelve minutes (12), and for the IV Category is fifteen minutes (15). Each contestant can interpret one or more works during the time limit. If the work consists of several parts, he or she can play one or several movements.
8. It is allowed to play transcriptions and arrangements of renowned composers.
9. Contestants requiring accompanists should bring their own.
10. Contestants that have participated in previous Biennials may participate again, only if they play different works than previously performed.
11. All First Prize Winners of the IV Category in previous Biennials are NOT allowed to participate.
12. The Jury will be conformed in odd number and comprised of Music Specialists. Their Decision will be unappealable and final.
13. If there is a Tie in any of the Categories, the cash prize will be divided in two equal parts.
14. The names of the Winners of all four Categories will be announced in the Awards and Closing Ceremony on November 30, 2008, at 20:00 hours in the State Theatre in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico.
15. Registrations are open as of the date of the publication of this Notice, and the closing date is November 14, 2008 at 17:00 hours. In case of using ordinary postal service, the posting date should not be after the date specified herewith.
16. In order to be considered registered in this V Piano Biennial, each contestant should supply a package containing the Registration Form (which is found at web page: www.bajacalifornia.gob.mx/icbc), a copy of birth certificate, and the four copies of the music scores to be interpreted as specified in Rule 5 of this Notice. All this should be delivered to the offices of the Instituto de Cultura de Baja California, from Monday through Friday from 8:00 to 15:00 hours. 17. Any controversy or debate regarding the development and interpretation of this Notice will be resolved by the Jury.
