Spring Festival

Spring Festival is almost here! We will hold the 2010 Spring Festival in the French Parlor on the beautiful campus of USD. The date will be Sunday, May 30, 2010. This is a non-competitive event, which means no winners will be chosen. However, the Spring Festival will be adjudicated, and every participant will receive an evaluation. Each participant will also receive a trophy for their performance in this Festival.

Date: Sunday, May 30

Schedule: There will be a total of six recitals, starting at 9:30 AM, 10:30 AM, 1:00 PM, 2:00 PM, 3.00 PM and 4:00 PM.

Location: The French Parlor inside Founders’ Hall on the campus of USD.

Theme: Dance music. This can include music from dance suites--such as minuets, gavottes, allemandes, gigues, etc. Other options are ballet music, waltzes, mazurkas, polonaises, tarantellas, cakewalk, etc. Another idea could be nationalistic dances, such as Brahm's Hungarian Dances, Grieg's Norwegian Dances, Dvorak's Slavonic Dances and Bartok's Rumanian Folk Dances(many of these are in wonderful four-hand arrangements). Ragtime and jazz dance genres are welcome, but please no pop music!

Rules:
1. Each teacher may enter a maximum of seven students.
2.The maximum time limit for each student is 7 minutes.
3.The student must perform the piece memorized.
4.The student must provide a score for the evaluators.
5. The piece can be for one performer on one piano, or two performers on one piano.
6. Instrumentalists and vocalists are welcome to participate. However, instrumental and vocal participants must provide their own accompanist.
7. Each teacher that has students in the Spring Festival must be present at the festival and help out during the recitals in which their students participate.
8.Evaluations from the adjudicators will be available after the festival in Piano SD- Lovley's Music Store.
9.Deadline for application: May 10th. Application fees must be postmarked by May 11th. Fee: $25 per student. Make checks payable to MTAC-San Diego Branch. The check must be drawn on the teacher’s account. Mail application fees to Karina Burch, 5476 Kiowa Drive #3, La Mesa, CA 91942
